WHY A MODERN DAY MOTHER GOOSE?

WHO WAS THE OLD, TRADITIONAL “MOTHER GOOSE”?

No one knows. Many believe she is a made up character and that the Mother Goose nursery rhymes were a way for the peasants to speak out about their kings and queens and the life they led.

Some say Mother Goose was a real woman who lived in Boston during the later half of the 17th century named Elizabeth Foster Goose or Mary Goose who entertained her grandchildren with amusing jingles.

Historians go back to the 1600’s when “mere l’oye” or “mere oye” (French for Mother Goose) was familiar to readers. And some say Mother Goose could date back to the 10th century, when according to a legend, King Robert II had a wife who fascinated children with her stories.
